Hello and welcome to my review of the Thrustmaster TH8A Gearbox Shifter. I will be discussing the pros and cons of the Thrustmaster TH8A so you can make an informed decision based on your needs and budget.
Before we get started a little about me. I have been playing racing sims for over 30 years and have over 20 years of experience with PCs in both a support and computer building role. I have been playing racing sims since the days of the Commodore 64. Enough about me lets get on with the review.
Thrustmaster TH8A Gearbox Shifter Review
The Thrustmaster TH8A is now the entry-level shifter from Thrustmaster since they have introduced the Sparco sequential shifter and handbrake combination. But for H-Pattern shifters, the TH8A is the only option from the Thrustmaster stable.
On first impressions, the TH8A is a hefty piece of metal just as Thrustmaster advertises and the clamping mechanism is sturdy enough in most situations to not require hard mounting. The shifter can be used in Sequential and H-Pattern modes and can be hooked up through USB or a DIN connection to your Thrustmaster Wheel if preferred.
Even though the TH8A can be used in both Sequential and H-Pattern modes, it is a bit clumsy having to take the knob off and change plates to make it happen. I like the switch approach that both Fanatec and Logitech do with their shifters. Depending on the use you may not find this an issue.
The other feature that I like is the ability to change the resistance levels of the switches to give a more personalized and accurate feel.
