LAPS@Racing #885 Sebring 12 Hour

The second iRacing special event for the Laps@Racing #885 team is the Sebring 12 hour featuring DP, GTE, and GT3 following the IMSA format.

Qualifying

I was in charge of the Qualifying duties and after stuffing up the first of the two laps I was pretty worried about the second.  Luckily I was able to put a good lap together and was able to take the pole.

Race

The race got off to a good start at least for the first 3 laps as I was able to pull out a 1.3-second gap to second.  Unfortunately, the GTE’s upfront had a spin and decided to drive back onto the racing line hitting the front end of the car.  This reduced the top speed and we fell victim to the cars behind.

At the first stop, 2 minutes of repairs were required to keep the car running and we were able to match race pace but were a lap down.

Kevin O’Keefe took the third and fourth stints and started strongly but had a spin on cold tires which is easy to do in the early afternoon session.  This created a tow situation and 11 minutes worth of repairs.  Once the car got out of the pits Kevin again was able to match race pace and slowly made our way back up the field.

Justin Talent took over the next stints and had an uneventful run and was able to match race pace.  This how the rest of the stints went throughout the race.  We were able to finish a respectable 5th considering the issues that we faced.  Onwards and upwards to Nurburgring for the 24 hours.
