Calculating the correct FOV in iRacing is not only important for immersion but also important for setting up your single monitor or multi-monitor setup to correctly display the track your racing on correctly. On a multi-monitor setup the FOV should represent a true 1:1 image of what you are seeing. This will help a lot with car placement especially on tracks where it can be hard to pick up apexes (COTA I am looking at you)

FOV Calculator

  • The Calculators will work with either inches or millimeters
  • Enter your monitor's horizontal width and the distance from your eyes to the monitor which will calculate the correct FOV for your seating position
  • If you reduce the distance from your monitor to your eyes this will increase your FOV
  • If your game is using a vertical FOV instead of the horizontal one enter the monitor's height to calculate the FOV
  • If you have a triple monitor setup configured to render as if they were one single monitor, just line up them up in a flat row and measure the width of all the monitors to calculate the correct FOV
  • If you are rendering a separate image to each monitor (Multi-Projection in iRacing) then use the triple monitor calculator below.
  • On a single monitor, you only want to measure the viewable section of the screen
  • On a triple monitor setup that is rendering a single renderer you need to measure the width of the screen including bezels of the center screen. Then in your video card settings enable bezel correction this will take the bezels out when rendering the image.
  • If you decide to render each monitor separately then only measure the viewable width of the center monitor without the bezels and you won't need to apply the bezel correction in your video card driver.

  • Just like the FOV calculators, they work in mm or inches
  • Enter your monitor's horizontal width and the desired FOV (not over 179 as that's the max iRacing can do) to calculate the correct distance from your seat.
  • Reducing the FOV will increase your seating distance
  • If your game calculates vertical FOV enter the monitor's height to calculate the distance
  • If you have your triple monitors configured to render as a single monitor than line up the monitors in a flat row and measure the width of all monitors to calculate the distance
  • If you are rendering a separate image to each monitor, then use the triple monitor calculator below
  • On a single monitor, you will need to use the width of the viewable part of the screen
  • On a triple monitor single renderer, the setup you need to use the width of the viewable image as well but include the bezels of the center monitor. Then in your video cards, drivers enable bezel correction
  • If you choose to render each monitor separately then you only need to measure the viewable width of the center monitor and don't apply any bezel correction.
